Round-Up: The Best Tummy Time Toys
Every baby is different and not every baby will have a blast during tummy time right away. In the beginning, mine cried every time we tried. But, he cried every time we tried anything so, there’s that! But, creating that perfect environment with the best tummy time toys can go a long way.
That can be as simple as laying a blanket on the floor and placing a tab and texture book in front of your baby. These books encourage exploration and will keep babies captivated while on their tummies which lengthens their workouts without adding stress. You can buy these sensory books on Etsy or you can make your own DIY sensory book. Just gather different materials from around the house to create a little book or DIY your own texture box to get your little one exploring and experimenting.
But, don’t worry. We’re all not “Pinterest perfect” all the time! If you don’t have that kind of DIY time or creativity on your hands there are many other options for busy moms and dads.
Here are the 5 best tummy time toys to get your little one moving and meeting their milestones:
This battery-operated ball of fun by Yookidoo is a must-have for tummy time. Babies activate the ball by shaking, tapping or rolling the ball. The lights and music encourage baby to crawl… one of the big goals of tummy time. The soft, lightweight material has different textures and is easy to grasp, so it’s perfect for small hands. And, it has a clip so that you can make sure it doesn’t roll too far away in those early and super frustrating tummy time days.

Foot and ankle rattles are great toys for newborns who can’t exactly get up and go. When baby kicks his or her feet and moves their arms, the rattles make noise while the bright colors and high contrast stimulate vision. Baby can also chew or suck the wrist rattle, extending tummy time a bit longer. These are fun to play with when it’s not tummy time, too!
